“Could you just stop talking for like a minute?” The spirit behind her finally stilled, and Victoria turned around, victorious, only to see someone from the land of the living standing directly between herself and Jacob, the ghost who had been chewing her ear off for the last hour. “Oh, no. Not you. Sorry about that.” She sent a glare toward Jacob, clearly saying this is all your fault

Sapphire, as per the usual for her, was more concerned with keeping her bag over her shoulder than she was with paying attention to her surroundings. She hauled it up one last time as the person she’d been strolling along behind turned, and blinked blankly at her. It occurred to her a little too late to watch her lips, and she lifted her hands as if to say stop, huffing when the bag immediately slid back off her shoulder. “What - are you talking to me?”

“I see you’re point. I will try to back off when I can, but just know it is hard for me though I am so glad that you can stick up for yourself.” She was proud to have such an amazing, strong friend that was also an incredible dance partner. Sapphire was certainly a sunspot in the darkness that was Grimstone and she hated when anyone be mean to her. “How about I treat you to some ice cream and then a dance session to make up for being a nosy friend?”

Her nod was terse, but her brief smile was grateful. She liked Marissa. She did. She was a good friend, a loyal person, at least came across like that around Sapphire herself. Plus, she’d always been inherently biased to ignore the bad in people who could and would dance well, in the end. It was probably a character flaw that Sapphire would come to regret, but, for now? None of her dance partners had tried to stab her, or anything nearly so dramatic. “Okay.” Her smile returned, brighter and wider and far less fleeting than its predecessor. “I need to have all the nuts on a sundae, though. And strawberry.” She nodded firmly this time, deciding. “Let me pick the song and all is forgiven.”
